| Oktober 11 2008 - Januari 18 2009 ![]() The artist Lars Lerin is doubly of interest this autumn. On October 11, Waldemarsudde opens an extensive exhibition featuring some 80 recent works by the artist, and at the same time, Lerin's book Mellan husen. Bilder från Lofoten (Between the houses. Images from Lofoten Islands) will be published. (In Swedish. Publisher: Natur & Kultur) Lars Lerin is considered to be among the more prominent contemporary Scandinavian water-colourists, and watercolours are predominant in the exhibition. There will be a mixture of single large-scale paintings and series of works, as well as collages made up of many small watercolours. Lerin does not work exclusively in watercolours but also expresses himself in oils, graphic art and installations. Lars Lerin finds his motifs in landscapes, among people and animals. Additionally, his travels to the Lofoten and Faroe Islands, to Iceland and in Siberia, India and the Middle East, have all left their mark in his art. Several of his works contain fragments of text, sentences and words, full of memories of the places he has visited. The simultaneously dark and light images often mirror the emotional life of the artist. Lars Lerin was born in 1954 in Munkfors in the County of Värmland in western Sweden. He studied at the Gerlesborg School of Fine Art 1974-75, then at the Valand School of Fine Arts in Gothenburg 1980-84. He has exhibited solo as well as in group expositions, in galleries and museums in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France, the Faroe Islands, on Iceland, in Norway, Germany and in the US. His works are found in several Swedish counties and in museums in Sweden and Norway. In 2005, Lars Lerin created a permanent exhibition at Munkfors in western Sweden. The former industrial premises (1 400 square meters) have kept their industrial character, with scarred concrete floors and piping in the ceiling. The exhibition is divided into sections, featuring various themes from the artist's œuvre of images and books. |
