Eugène Jansson – Blue Dusk and Naked Athletes
February 18 - June 10, 2012

Eugène Jansson (1862-1915) was a colourful pioneer of modern painting, active around the turn of the century 1900. He has been called ‘the Blue Painter’ because of his depictions of Stockholm at night, wrapped in a poetic dusky blue light. From 1907, he dedicated himself to figure-painting, predominantly depicting naked male athletes and gymnasts.

Lilli and Prince Eugen
100 Years of handicrafts and textile art

June 6 – September 16, 2012
To commemorate the one hundredth anniversary in 2012 of the countrywide Swedish handicrafts organization Svenska Hemslöjdsföreningarnas Riksförbundet, a number of exhibitions will be shown throughout Sweden. At Waldemarsudde, our starting point is Ms Lilli Zickerman, a pioneer of the handicrafts movement, who in 1899 formed the first national association for handicrafts, Föreningen för Svensk Hemslöjd, with Prince Eugen as its chairman. Works by a number of important textile artists will be shown – Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Edna Martin and Annika Ekdahl, to mention but a few. The internationalization of handicrafts today will also be in focus, through the work created by the design center Livstycket, amongst others.
The Nobel Dinner Service

Prince Eugen’s dining-room table will be laid with the dinner set created in 1991 by Karin Björquist, Gunnar Cyrén and Ingrid Dessau, for the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Nobel Prizes.

Lars Jonsson - Studies & Paintings
2002-2012 October 6, 2012 - January 21, 2013

Ten years on, artist Lars Jonsson is back at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, with some 150 new studies, sketches and paintings. His sharp sense of observation, coupled with his sense of presence, has developed even further in this new century, alongside the on-going search to portray an elusive reality. The beaches, the sea and the birds at the southern end of the island of Gotland are Jonsson's most important sources of inspiration and his paintings express a personal and intense feeling for nature. The rich selection of studies and sketches mirror an almost manic driving force to read, understand and interpret visual impressions from direct experiences. The journey goes from the shores of the Baltic to more distant parts such as the Antarctic and the Artic.

Helene Schjerfbeck
November 10, 2012 - February 24, 2013

Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) is one of the greatest Scandinavian artists of all time. In 2012, one hundred and fifty years have passed since her birth, and this is commemorated in an extensive jubilee exhibition produced by the Finnish national museum Ateneum in Helsinki, which holds the largest collection of her works. As a child prodigy, she began her art studies at the age of 13. After several years in France and travels in Italy and England, she returned to Finland. Her art was constantly refined in a modernistic direction, with a stripped-down and simplified idiom. The exhibition features a wide selection of works by Schjerfbeck, including landscapes, interiors, still lifes and portraits.
